CTTA 2013 Summer/Fall Series Wrap Up!

Another really great CTTA Summer Series is in the books.  For the 2014 Summer Series, the CTTA introduced 7 events to the series with help from 2 trials clubs and included a piggy backed vintage series with the SWVTA in the afternoon bringing a new meaning to “AM and PM” riders.  Thanks Hetz for bringing this about, everyone truly enjoyed this addition to the fun.  This year the series was brought to our trials friends in the north by the Mark Hanson and friends in Bridgeport and Wayne McMahan and SORTA provided another awesome event in Smithville.  We enjoyed another new venue brought to us by Jon Penner at Cow Creek and introduced 4 first time trial masters to the ranks.  Our class trophies this year were embroidered hats which everyone liked for a change.  Adam Hall proudly won the coveted crash trophy.  Again this year we are very proud to host 2 charity events benefiting the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation and The Texas Baptist Children’s Home.  We can be very proud of our clubs willingness to not sit on its hands but always jump to work to encourage maximum growth of Mototrials in Texas.

The 2014 event schedule included:

#1 Joe Miller’s place in Jonestown with BJ Miller as Trial master
#2 CTOR in Salado with Michael Glasscock as Trial master
#3 Twin Hills in Bridgeport with Mark Hanson as Trial master
#4 McMahan Ranch in Smithville with Wayne McMahan as Trial master
#5 Harvest Classic Charity Trial in Luckenbach with Don Hubbard as Trial master
#6  Cow Creek in Lago Vista with John Penner and Bobby Reece as Trial Masters
#7 Toy Ride at City Park in Austin with Benji Dalgleish and Adam Hall as Trial masters

Congratulations to Tomas Pantin, Steve Elms, Charles Covill, Ben Dalgleish, Daniel Hunt, Bobby Reece & BJ Miller as they were the overall class winners in 2013! Checkout all of the event-by-event results here. BTW, 81 riders participated in one or more events! Hope to see all of you in 2014!

A huge thanks to all our land owners, trials masters, Mitch Ely for all the sign up and scoring, the CTTA board, and the many many volunteers and riders that showed up to support trials in Texas.  Already looking forward to next year.

Results Round 7 CTTA “Summer Series”

The 7th and last round of the 2013 CTTA Summer Series was held at Emma Long City Park this past weekend.  Many thanks to our first time trial masters Benji Dalgleish and Adam Hall.  They both really put a lot into preparing their version of 6 sections of trials chaos for everyone to enjoy and had to endure some nasty cold wet days prior to get it just right.

29 riders enjoyed great riding weather as it turned out to be very pleasant for riding the sections, however, in the pavilion where many of our spectators and groupies hung out, the constant wind brought a cutting chill to the air.  Big thanks to Tomas and Nora for putting up tarps to block the wind and a propane heater to keep ourselves nice and toasty.  Neil King saw to it that no one got lost on the loop by doing a perfect job of marking everyone’s way from section to section.  Some noteworthy accomplishments of our riders were: Tomas Patin moved up to Amateur class, Charles Covill moved up to Intermediate, Bj Miller managed to win Master class while leading his competitors in the most 5’s column????, and Jon “dad gum” Armour turned in an awesome score in the amateur class at the end of the day.  Good job guys.

Most hung around afterwards for a potluck and had a good time socializing.

This is our 3rd Toy Ride event and again  received a great haul of gifts and donations for the kids of the Texas Baptist Children’s Home including close to $500 in cash and checks.  Thanks to everyone for their generosity in making this another very successful event.

Round #6 at Cow Creek

The CTTA explored a new venue last weekend west of Jonestown on Cow Creek. Jon Penner’s friend Mike graciously allowed the CTTA to play with our motorcycles on his property – Thanks Mike! Jon also says that there is lots of unexplored land out there with endless possibilities for more challenging sections!

26 riders enjoyed beautiful weather on a rare Sunday event. Trials Masters Jon Penner & Bobby Reece laid out 5 sections to challenge the riders. Several classes were tightly contested and decided by less than two points. In Novice, Driskill had a superb one point ride only to be edged out by Tomas with a CLEAN trial! Congratulations Tomas! In Amateur, the top four riders were separated by only one point. Joe and John finished with only two points and Eric and Charles tied with a single mark; Charles took the win by the furthest point rule. In Intermediate, the father and son duo of Ben & Benji have been trading wins this season, with Benji taking the win on this weekend. And in Master, brothers BJ and Lance battled it out with BJ edging Lance for the win by a single point. Check out all of the results here.

The potluck after the event was also a hit with brisket and Shelly’s pumpkin pie cake.

A BIG THANKS to Jon Penner for securing this fun place to ride! Jon wants to extend THANKS to everyone that helped clear sections and loop: John, BJ, Pam, Lance, Bobby, Cory, Carson, Mike, Ben, Benji, Jonathan, Tomás, Nora – Thank You!

Results – Charity Challenge at the Harvest Classic Rally!

What an event! Perfect weather, a great turnout and we raised big money for a worthy cause! We raised over $3,000 for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation!!! A special THANKS to Jay Glasscock – you rock! It has been great to have a club t-shirt, the first that I can remember since I started riding with the CTTA in ’99 and it was an incredibly wonderful contribution to the Charity Challenge! Thanks to everyone that participated in the 2013 Charity Challenge – your contribution will make a difference!

We had a really wonderful turnout with 43 riders in the morning’s Modern event and 21 in the afternoon on Vintage iron. Tristan Harris, Eric Smith, Steve Elms, Charles Coville, Ben Dalgleish, Daniel Hunt, Andrew Trousdale and BJ Miller were the big winners in the morning event and Michael Glasscock, Ben Dalgleish and Adam Hall took top honors in the afternoon. Congratulations all of you!

A very SPECIAL THANKS! to EVERYONE that helped set up or tear down this event!!! It’s a bit of a construction project to host a trials at Luckenbach. The natural terrain is a bit easy, but with your efforts (sore muscles and sore backs…) we pulled it off again. If you were there to both set up and tear down – you really do rock – THANKS!

Lastly, I really want to call out John Armour for going above and beyond with his really, really cool demo trailer! I think everyone enjoyed riding it and the crowd really enjoyed the show that the top riders – David Mizell, Glen Roblin, BJ Miller & Lance Miller – put on.

Again, thanks to each and everyone one of you that helped make the 2013 Charity Challenge such a success. Hope to see you next year!

Don

It was a little slippery at the start of Round 4 at the McMahan’s Ranch in Smithville due to overnight rains, but we dodged any additional rain and traction was just got better and better after the first loop.

Results Round #3 CTTA 2013 “Summer” Series

24 riders enjoyed near perfect conditions at Lake Bridgeport on a beautiful Saturday in mid-August.  It had rained a bit earlier in the week – just enough to keep the dust down and create near perfect traction. A cool front had also come through and the early morning temps were in the mid-60’s!!! I doubt the mercury hit 90 at the hottest part of the day.

Trials Master Mark Hansen set 5 fun sections; the scores were a tad low, but everyone had fun and they would have been much tougher had the weather been anything like August normal, i.e. 10 – 15 degrees hotter.

There were several perfect rides on Saturday. Tomas Pantin had a perfect scores on the Novice line and a 3-way tie in Amateur saw Ray French, Tom Batchelor and Jeff George also all on zero points. Ray French and Tom Batchelor participated in a ride off and Ray nudged Tom for the win after 6 rides on the Intermediate line in sections 4 & 5. Expert was also tightly contested with only 3 points separating 1st – 3rd. Daniel Hunt took his first Expert class win; wasn’t he just last year’s Novice Cup winner??

Thanks to Mark Hansen, Stephen Hetzel, Mitch Ely, and Don Scott and anyone else that helped put on Round #3!
